Editorial - May 2012 - N°365

From one day to the next during this month of May, the liturgy leads us towards the great culmination of the paschal mystery which is the coming of the Holy Spirit over the Church. Between the Ascension and Pentecost, we relive the waiting of the first Christian community at the Cenacle, the departure of the Lord opens for us the way to hope.

The month of May is also marked by the presence of Mary. But even though we search for them, the prayers and prefaces do not mention her. She is mentioned discretely but really, in conformity with the most ancient tradition of the Church as much in the western as in the eastern tradition.

And yet, the feast of the Visitation, on 31st of May has a particular resonance. Mary exults with an immense joy, without ever making allusion of having been chosen by God to be the Mother of His Son. All her greatness she attributes to God’s gift.

Refuge for many and mystery for all, Mary thus leaves it to our discretion how to pray to her, as she did in an attitude completely turned towards God.
